BPC: the future of cash in a digital economy

BPC Banking Technologies’ Director of Sales Michalis Michaelidis discusses the future of cash in a digital economy from Money20/20

FinTech Magazine speaks to BPC Banking Technologies Director of Sales Michalis Michaelidis from Money20/20, sounding out his thoughts on cash in the payments economy of the future.

As Michaelidis puts it: “electronic money will continue its rise, for sure, greater digitisation for monetary transactions will take place”.

Yet, despite this upward trend in digital payments, Michaelidis doesn’t see “cash being phased out in its entirety”.

He adds: “I think there is definitely a need and a place for cash. There are some markets pushing for cash regulation as an alternative, to serve parts of the global population that rely on access to cash.”

Be that as it may, Michaelidis feels there will “more or less be a cashless society, at least in Europe”, at some stage in the future.
