On 17 April, FinTech LIVE continued to expand its span of executive events by hosting an exciting virtual conference in Dubai which aimed to connect the world’s fintech leaders- FinTech LIVE Dubai.

Across the day, those who attended the virtual event could hear executive conversations from internationally acclaimed business leaders, participate in engaging panel discussions and absorb an abundance of knowledge from fireside chats and keynote speakers.

Throughout the event, a span of global executives from the industry shared their wealth of knowledge with attendees, equipping them with the resources they need to make a mark in the future.

FinTech LIVE Dubai continued to craft connections within the fintech industry and provided a platform for influential voices to share their ideas on how they plan to create a better tomorrow.

How to Build High-Performing Teams with Linoy Kidd, CIO of Markets & Securities Services (MENAT) at HSBC

Throughout this keynote chat, Linoy Kidd, CIO of Markets and Securities Services for HSBC in the Middle East and North Africa, utilised her community and corporate experience to delve into her advice for attendees on how they could build a high-performing team and enhance their leadership skills. 

Linoy explored how effective leadership consisted of ensuring team members are in roles that maximise their set of skills, fully comprehending the motivation of the team and being actively involved in their work, too. 

She continued to explain how her leadership skills are driven by values such as collaboration and empathy. In addition to this, she explores how she maintains the success of her teams by ensuring people feel appreciated, establishing a supportive environment and improving morale.

Throughout her discussion, Linoy explains that her span of community efforts, including building schools and homes across the world, has contributed to how she conducts herself in a corporate setting, focusing on empathy, empowerment and mutual respect.

She finally focuses on how effective leadership is driven by ensuring that leaders relate and understand the motivations and needs of their team members and strive to learn every day.

Accelerating Growth: Strategies for Market Expansion & Partnerships Amnah Ajmal, Group EVP at Mastercard

Mastercard's Amnah Ajmal on Accelerating Growth at Fintech LIVE Dubai 2024

Through this keynote chat, Amnah Ajmal, Group EVP at Mastercard, discussed the benefits using technology can have in accelerating industry growth, but also mentioned the key challenges it can present, highlighting the need for inclusive and responsible leadership.

A key focus of Amnah’s discussion was the capabilities of AI, highlighting the incredible capability this technology can have in enhancing human capabilities. Amnah highlighted how AI has benefited the healthcare sector in rural areas by allowing underserved populations to access solutions more easily.

However, she was also eager to mention that, even though AI possesses incredible potential in many industries, those who utilise it need to ensure that they avoid human biases the technology has previously demonstrated and approach it from a ethical perspective.

A prominent element of Amnah’s keynote chat was the duality of technology, explaining that even though it can connect many of us across the globe, it also results in greater screen time and potential cyberbullying.

Amnah continued to explain to businesses that, if they wish to expand and grow their client base, it is vital to make sense of the customer, technological and regulatory landscapes of the market, in order to gain a competitive advantage.

Digital & Open Banking Forum

Digital & Open Banking Forum at Fintech LIVE Dubai 2024

Featuring Srinivasan Sampath, Acting Group Chief Technology Officer at First Abu Dhabi Bank and Amr Naguib, AVP, Head of Digital Banking Ecosystem, Innovation and Digital Payments at Mashreq Egypt, this forum delved into how Open Banking and digitalisation have altered the financial landscape in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.

Srinivasan began the discussion by highlighting the significant shift the region has recently felt due to Bahrain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) implementing Open Banking and UAE planning to launch it in Q3 this year, resulting in the region becoming more attractive for fintech companies wanting to expand and grow their services. 

However, Amr focuses on the benefits of Open Banking for customers, highlighting how the platform allows them to access multiple financial services with ease, resulting in competitive pricing.

He then continues to explain how Egypt is beginning to use Open Banking with caution by making small steps to implement this technology to start with.

The pair of speakers both agreed that Open Banking will create an incredible impact in the financial landscape in the GCC region.

The Power of Digital Asset Data with Shawn Douglass, Co- Founder and CEO of Amberdata

Amberdata's Shawn Douglass on Digital Asset Data at Fintech LIVE Dubai 2024

Throughout this keynote chat, Shawn Douglass, Co- Founder and CEO of Amberdata, emphasises the fact that digital asset data is becoming more important as the industry develops, highlighting how data drives the economies of today.

Shawn continues to explain that Amberdata utilises complex infrastructure to gain a detailed view when managing such large amounts of data. As well as this, he also highlights how the rise of ETFs and Bitcoin ETFs have allowed digital assets to become more integrated into the industry. 

Later on in the fireside chat, Shawn emphasises the importance of businesses to stay ahead of emerging trends, in order to maintain a competitive advantage. He highlighted this by using the example of his team at Amberdata, explaining how they invest large sums of money in research and technology.

Shawn concluded by explaining how digital assets will develop into a key player in the global financial system and that businesses need to acquire complex and actionable insights to thrive in the financial sector.

Digital Payments Forum

Digital Payments Forum at Fintech LIVE Dubai 2024

Featuring Cem Soydemir, Head of Payments Go-To-Market, MEA, South & Central Asia at Swift and Omer Shatzky, Head of Risk & FinTech at Wix.com, this panel discussion focused on the most recent trends in digital payments across the GCC region.

The panel highlighted how the growth of digital payments is altering how businesses interact with consumers in the economy and is crafting a new finance landscape in the GCC region.

Cem explains how consumers are beginning to expect payments to become instant and frictionless in a domestic and international field.

In addition to this, demands have also risen in consumers wanting greater transparency on fees, reliable delivery, the ability to track payments and efficient foreign exchange rates in cross- border transactions. 

Omer begins to highlight that the industry became more digital after the Covid- 19 pandemic, which resulted in consumers increasing their use of personalised checkouts, by-now-pay-later options and digital wallets.

Both of the speakers highlight that digital payments result in many benefits, including efficient bulk payments through APIs, collecting customer data and being able to open 24/7.

The pair of speakers began to explain that a dilemma has begun to emerge- the balance between convenience for consumers and efficient security measures.

They went on to explain that technological advancements, such as tokenisation, biometric challenges and two- factor authentication results in strong security being implemented.

The panel concluded that success will occur if organisations utilise data analytics and new technologies effectively in order to take advantage of the digital economy and reduce safeguarding risks.

Managing Risk at the Pace of Business with Khurram Khan, AGM, Head of Non-Financial Risk (SVP) at Boubyan Bank

Boubyan Bank's Khurram Khan on Managing Risk at Fintech LIVE Dubai 2024

During this keynote chat, Khurram Khan, AGM and Head of Non-Financial Risk (SVP) at Boubyan Bank explored the change in risk management in the financial sector.

Throughout the keynote, Khurram explained that financial risks such as growing non- financial risks linked to cyber- attacks, technology failures and regulatory demands focused on data privacy are emerging today, rather than traditional risks like credit exposure.

He explained that Boubyan Bank adopts a holistic approach when approaching risk management, in order to address and identify all risks and communication effectively to prevent any repeats, highlighting the importance of risk management being integrated across the entirety of the bank.

Khurram continued to explain that customer experience and the growth of the business should be supported by risk management. He used the example of Boubyan Bank’s streamlined processes in this, highlighting how they can reduce times for risk assessments from months to two weeks.

He concluded the keynote by focusing on potential challenges that could emerge in the future that are focused on data privacy, AI and sustainability, due to the growth in the use of AI.
