HSBC UK has announced the appointment of Tom Wood as its new Head of Business Banking within its commercial bank, following a competitive recruitment process. Tom, who currently serves as Head of Global Payments Solutions (GPS), will take over from Martin Hanson, who has held the interim position for the past two months.

With more than two decades of experience in the financial services sector, including 10 years in various senior-level positions at HSBC UK, Tom brings substantial expertise to the role. His appointment underscores HSBC UK's commitment to supporting businesses through their growth journey.

Stuart Tait, HSBC UK's Head of Commercial Banking, emphasised the bank's unique position to support Business Banking customers through every stage of their growth lifecycle. He highlighted Tom's extensive experience and ambitious vision for supporting businesses from startup to IPO and beyond.

In accepting the role, Tom emphasised the crucial role of SMEs in the UK economy, noting their significance in creating employment opportunities and generating wealth within local communities. He expressed enthusiasm about working with the dynamic business community and leveraging HSBC UK's global reach and extensive product range to help realise their growth ambitions.

Tom’s appointment took effect on 1 November, with HSBC UK currently carrying out a recruitment process for Tom's successor as Head of GPS for the commercial bank. This strategic appointment reinforces HSBC UK's dedication to strengthening its business banking segment and supporting the growth of SMEs across the country.
