Zip’s Superagents and MCP are designed to automate finance and procurement workflows while keeping audit trails, controls and compliance in place

Zip has launched Zip MCP and Zip Superagents, positioning the move as the first governed AI platform for finance and procurement.

The company announced the two major launches at the Zip AI Summit in New York.

Zip asserts that AI is now capable of executing core procurement tasks while remaining fully embedded within its existing controls, audit framework and governance structures.

The agentic procurement orchestration platform is also rolling out Zip AI Spend Automation, which brings together platform access, AI usage credits and dedicated engineering support to help organisations streamline and automate their intake-to-pay workflows.

The company says its customers have collectively delivered savings exceeding US$10bn through its AI suite, achieved by operating AI within a procurement-native governance layer rather than running it alongside existing systems.

Zip's AI Superagents

Zip’s Superagents are an AI platform designed to handle practical procurement tasks, including contract review, approval bottlenecks, invoice coding and vendor research, with every action tracked and governed within Zip.

The Superagents are built to work alongside the people already managing procurement workflows.

They are organised around five key friction points in the procurement process: Procurement Superagent, Contract Superagent, AP Superagent, Config Superagent and Intake Superagent.

Zip says each Superagent action is controlled by the same roles, permissions and safeguards applied to employees, with granular action settings, audit trails and deterministic logic used for high-impact steps such as system updates and approvals.

Mithun Sharma, Chief Procurement Officer at Block, says: “Every team has a mandate to automate and procurement is no different. This is one of the many reasons we have partnered with Zip.

“We get the procurement platform our team runs on, fully governed AI agents automating the work and forward-deployed engineers who specialise in procurement AI and build alongside us.”

Zip's procurement MCP

Zip MCP is a procurement-native implementation of the Model Context Protocol that connects Zip’s procurement intelligence directly to AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT, allowing employees to work in their preferred AI tools without losing Zip’s controls.

Its vendor-hosted MCP links Zip’s AI procurement platform directly to any MCP-compatible assistant.

The system is model-agnostic, so procurement governance stays attached to the work regardless of which AI tool an employee chooses.

Zip says this is the first time MCP has been implemented natively for enterprise procurement.

AI operating inside enterprise procurement

Lu Cheng, Co-Founder and CTO at Zip, says: “After working with hundreds of enterprises, including the world's leading AI companies, we've learned that this kind of work is already happening, with or without governance.

“Even the companies building AI themselves want this work governed. They want the audit trail. They want the controls. They want the integrations to their systems of record. And they want to make sure their employees aren't uploading sensitive financial, contract and customer data into general-purpose AI.

“That's why we built Zip's orchestration layer the way we did over the past five years, so that AI doesn't just operate alongside enterprise procurement, but inside it, where every action is governed and auditable.”

Zip MCP and Zip Superagents are in beta today, included with all core Zip products, and are due to be generally available in summer 2026.

Zip also says its AI Spend Automation is available now for enterprise customers.
