MQube CEO on Bringing Agentic AI to Mortgage Banking

More than 45,000 participants flocked to London Tech Week across three jam-packed days, with the event buzzing with fresh government pledges, cutting-edge innovations and a stream of major announcements.
Britain's largest technology event ran from 9 to 11 June 2025 at London Olympia, kicking off with a keynote address from Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who was later joined on stage by Nvidia Co-Founder and Chief Executive Jensen Huang.
Stuart Cheetham serves as Chief Executive and co-founder of MQube, a technology firm specialising in artificial intelligence with a particular focus on agentic AI. Operating primarily within the mortgage sector, MQube deploys AI solutions to help banks drive innovation.
Here, he speaks to our sister publication Technology Magazine at London Tech Week.
Working in a regulated environment can mean there are a lot of hurdles. Is AI an enabler? Is it putting barriers in your way?
We spend a lot of time with the regulator and help the regulator understand what we’re doing with AI. That really helps that part of the journey.
When we’re talking to big institutions, they know that we put ourselves into the regulated environment first so they can see that we’ve done it right.
They can see the results and they can trust that we know what we do.
Who are you proud to work with?
We work with a whole bunch of people, including big, global brands.
Barclays is our business bank, and we’re attending London Tech Week with them.
What parts of AI, specifically in your line of business, excite you the most?
Of course it’s agentic AI. We’re all very excited by this.
When we speak to big banks — I speak to CEOs and CIOs all the time — it’s not about the large language model, it’s not actually about the AI, it’s about the ecosystem they use and them being able to control it, make it transparent, make it auditable. That’s really the topic.
The ecosystem is probably leading transformation more than the actual AI itself.
With AI being such a fast moving space, we’re seeing innovation at an unprecedented rate. What are you excited for? Where do you see it going?
If you're an entrepreneur, there's never been a better time to adopt AI, as long as you stay really focused and know what your IP is.
Ultimately, for consumers, it’s going to mean cheaper products and better service all the way through this.
Clearly, the challenges are going to be around the transformation of technology and transformation of our jobs.
Things are not going to be the same in five years’ time.
How important are events like this in helping keep discussions about AI — especially in regulated environments — going?
What’s really great about London Tech Week is there’s some really, really big brands here, along with fun startups. What it’s showing is how the whole market is moving around the AI agenda.
There's great information to get your hands on and it allows you to just feel the vibe about what's coming up as well.
There’s a great buzz and it’s an exciting place to be.
The world is going to transform like we have never seen before, it’s going to be quite radical.
If you’re an entrepreneur or founder in the AI space, it’s a fantastic time.
It’s about really understanding the tech and how you can productise it.
