What inspired you to get involved in FinTech LIVE Singapore?

As someone who has been deeply involved in the payments and fintech solutions space in ASEAN for over two decades, I’ve witnessed how much this industry has evolved.

I believe that this progress wouldn’t have been possible without the collaboration of industry players coming together on invaluable platforms — like FinTech LIVE — to share insights and have meaningful discussions about what’s next for payments and fintech in ASEAN.

Provide an overview of what the AI in FinTech panel will cover.

My session will essentially explore how AI is shaping the financial services landscape.

Alongside the other speakers, I’m looking forward to sharing insights on how financial institutions can effectively implement AI to enhance their services.

We also hope to have an in-depth discussion on strategies to leverage AI responsibly — ensuring that institutions uphold robust security standards while adhering to a strong ethical framework.

What do you hope to achieve through the event?

I hope that the audience can have a better understanding of strategies that can help them implement AI in fraud detection and risk management, while addressing critical concerns around data security and ethical considerations.

I’m also equally excited to learn from my industry peers and gain a different perspective on the many interesting topics that we’ll explore at FinTech LIVE.

What emerging trends do you believe will shape the future of the fintech industry over the next decade?

In ASEAN, we’re seeing great momentum in digital payment adoption, driven by the increasing accessibility of e-wallets and mainstream digital financial products.

This transformation is particularly benefitting SMEs, which form the backbone of the ASEAN economy. As barriers to digitalisation continue to lower, allowing for more affordable and user-friendly solutions — traditionally underserved merchants are gaining access to digital financial services that were once out of reach.

I also foresee AI being one of the primary drivers of innovation in financial services. As these technologies evolve, we’ll see greater adoption of both global and localised AI models tailored to regional needs.

However, we’re also entering an era where fraud has scaled to industrial levels. AI-generated content is becoming more human-like, giving fraudsters the ability to create believable, fake identities and execute coordinated attacks.

To stay ahead, FIs need to face AI threats with AI solutions. Not only do we need to detect threats in real-time but we also anticipate and adapt to emerging risks.
