This panel discussion will explore how AI is transforming the fintech industry by automating risk management, enhancing fraud detection and enabling hyper-personalised financial services.
Financial institutions can also streamline their operations, improve decision making and enhance customer experiences by utilising predictive analytics and machine learning.
We recently caught up with Stephen to discover what inspired him to get involved with FinTech LIVE Singapore, his aims for the panel, as well as his predictions for the future of the fintech industry.
What inspired you to get involved in FinTech LIVE Singapore?
The opportunity to meet and discuss advancements in fintech from some of the industry’s leading thinkers. We are at a critical time for the fintech industry and it is important to discuss the developments and possible impacts.
Provide an overview of what the AI in FinTech panel will focus on.
AI promises to change everything so I will be discussing the possible impacts of AI on fintech. AI’s impact could be so dramatic that the very nature of banking could be significantly disrupted.
Some of the world’s largest banks are openly stating that AI’s impact on jobs in the industry could affect more than 50% of jobs. So I discuss different AI futures as well as possible impacts on the banking industry.
What do you hope to achieve through FinTech LIVE Singapore?
I hope to encourage more people to think deeply about what the advent of “on-demand cognition” means for the industry and more broadly the economy.
I genuinely think the next 10 years will be extremely challenging for workers and corporates.
What emerging trends do you believe will shape the future of the fintech industry over the next decade?
No development will have as much impact as AI.
The impact of superior cognitive capacity for a few dollars will supplant the cost of the same workers who cost more than 100K today (on demand cognition). Access to advisory skills will move to the consumers who have their own personal AI advocate who can replace a lot of the advisory role of banks .
Secondly, we will see digital currency adoption really gain traction. Machines don’t need a world of fiat currencies with which to trade each other, with all the cumbersome regulation that comes with it. AIs will use digital currencies to trade with other and this will improve productivity and efficiency.
Finally, I see a challenging future for regulators. Lots of discourse is focused on AI regulation and responsible AI, but we don’t even have a clear idea on the technology as it is developing so quickly. To be clear I don’t have a solution either, but too much regulation is just as damaging as not enough regulation.
