Worldpay Partners with Trulioo for AI Agent Verification

Worldpay has announced a partnership with Trulioo to develop verification systems for AI-powered commerce agents.
The deal addresses identity verification and consent capture as artificial intelligence assumes transaction responsibilities traditionally handled by consumers.
AI agents now play expanding roles in retail transactions, creating challenges for payment processors and merchants who must verify agent legitimacy and document consumer consent.
Worldpay processes over 50 billion transactions annually across 174 countries, whilst Trulioo operates verification services covering 195 countries.
“Innovation in payments must always be grounded in integrity and trust,” says Cindy Turner, Chief Product Officer at Worldpay.
“By partnering with Trulioo, we're delivering the trust infrastructure our ecosystem needs and empowering businesses and consumers to embrace AI-powered commerce with confidence, knowing that safety and transparency are at the heart of every transaction.”
Both companies will develop systems enabling merchants to assess AI agent credentials before processing transactions initiated by these agents on behalf of consumers.
Know Your Agent framework introduces digital credentials
Central to this deal is the Know Your Agent framework, which utilises Trulioo's Digital Agent Passport system.
This credential system enables merchants to evaluate whether an AI agent operates with appropriate authorisation and consumer consent.
KYA establishes verification processes for developer identity, code integrity, user consent and ongoing agent trustworthiness.
Trulioo's verification platform covers more than 14,000 identity documents and 700 million business entities whilst monitoring over 6,000 watchlists.
Merchants using Worldpay's payment processing will access tools to validate consumer intent and verify the authority granted to AI agents before completing transactions.
The system aims to enable merchants to process agent-initiated transactions whilst maintaining fraud prevention measures.
The framework distinguishes between verified agents, which receive transaction access, unknown agents, which encounter additional verification requirements and suspicious agents, which face transaction blocks.
This tiered approach replaces blanket restrictions on AI agent transactions.
Fraud prevention meets commerce automation
The deal addresses fraud concerns as AI agents gain transaction capabilities.
Traditional payment security relies on consumer-initiated transactions, but agent-led commerce introduces questions about authorisation and accountability when software makes purchasing decisions.
Worldpay's implementation will enable real-time assessment of agent credentials during transaction processing.
Merchants can configure acceptance criteria based on agent verification status, consumer consent documentation and transaction patterns.
“Agentic commerce has significant potential, but it can only scale with trust built in from the start,” says Vicky Bindra, CEO at Trulioo.
“With Worldpay, we're laying the foundation for a more secure and accountable digital ecosystem - one where AI agents can operate transparently, and consumers stay in control.”
The system monitors ongoing agent behaviour to identify anomalies that might indicate compromised credentials or unauthorised actions.
Transaction data feeds into risk assessment algorithms that adjust agent trust scores based on purchasing patterns and merchant feedback.
Regulatory compliance drives development timeline
This initiative anticipates regulatory requirements for AI agent transactions as authorities develop frameworks for automated commerce.
Financial regulators in multiple jurisdictions are examining AI's role in payment processing and consumer protection.
KYA incorporates audit trails for agent actions, enabling regulatory compliance reporting and consumer dispute resolution.
Merchants benefit from reduced fraud exposure and improved conversion rates for legitimate agent transactions.
The system enables automatic processing of verified agent purchases whilst maintaining security controls that identify suspicious activity. Trulioo's verification capabilities support merchants operating across multiple jurisdictions with varying identity requirements.
The platform's document verification covers identity documents from 195 countries, enabling consistent agent verification regardless of developer location.
