Why did Arsenal Choose Airwallex to Power Payments?

Having upgraded its payment solution to be a single, fully-integrated Payments Acceptance (PA) software, Airwallex has strengthened its roots as the official software partner of Arsenal FC.
The firm is set to enhance the hospitality experience at the club's Emirates Stadium, streamlining every transaction across corporate boxes, premium seating and VIP experiences during matchdays.
It will also deliver reduced costs and a faster, smoother experience for supporters purchasing hospitality packages.
Deepening financial infrastructure in elite sport
The integration embeds Airwallex into the infrastructure behind a growing area of the club’s matchday experience.
“It is wonderful to be deepening our partnership with Arsenal, bringing the power of Airwallex’s payment technology to the club’s world-class hospitality offering,” says Christos Chamberlain, UK and European General Manager at Airwallex.
“Our Payment Acceptance solution will not only create a frictionless payment experience for fans but also deliver meaningful cost savings to the club – proving how innovative financial infrastructure can elevate sport and entertainment experiences."
The partnership serves as a significant addition to Airwallex's portfolio of global sports collaborations, which includes Formula One’s McLaren Racing.
Omar Shaikh, Global Partnerships & Ventures Director at Arsenal, comments: “We were delighted to welcome Airwallex into our family because they share our ambition, and they are a leader in what they do.
“We benefit from the expertise they bring and the innovation they are already delivering for us and our supporters."
Driving European and digital wallet expansion
The Arsenal deal aligns with Airwallex's broader strategy to expand its footprint across Europe and the Middle East.
Earlier this month, Airwallex announced an investment of approximately US$234m in the Netherlands over the next five years.
This regional focus includes a significant recruitment drive in Amsterdam and the appointment of Christos to lead the UK and European hub from London.
The firm is also targeting the expansion of its product line to cover Spend AI, credit cards and recurring billing software.
Such investments reflect a growing confidence in the European market as a launchpad for international growth and regional scalability.
Capitalising on the shift to digital wallets
Strategic partnerships remain central to Airwallex's efforts to solve the complexities of a disjointed global payments landscape.
Airwallex recently partnered with the European Payments Initiative (EPI) to facilitate merchant access to Wero, a new digital wallet.
The Wero wallet is designed to support easy cross-border payments across Europe without the need for physical cards or IBANs.
By becoming a Principal Member of the EPI, the fintech is positioning itself to lead the transition toward account-to-account (A2A) payment solutions.
These developments demonstrate the firm’s commitment to providing cutting-edge local payment methods and embedded financial tools to its global customer base.
Strengthening a global fintech position
This latest announcement comes hot on the heels of Airwallex surpassing US$1bn in annual revenue run rate (ARR) and raising US$330m in a Series G funding round.
Founded in Melbourne, the platform is now trusted by more than 150,000 businesses worldwide including TikTok, SHEIN and Qantas.
Airwallex is reimagining how businesses manage accounts, access capital and control spend by combining proprietary infrastructure with software and AI.
It is designed to replace fragmented legacy systems with a unified solution for global financial operations. This includes providing everything from multi-currency business accounts to spend management and embedded financial products.
