How Protiviti works with finserv clients

In a recent interview with FinTech Magazine, Protiviti’s Dan Stummer highlighted a critical "crisis point" for Chief Information Officers (CIOs) within the financial services sector.

Dan Stummer, Global Managing Director Head of Technology Consulting Financial Services at Protiviti

He revealed that many institutions are currently trapped by technical debt, allocating 70% to 80% of their IT budgets simply to maintaining archaic legacy systems. This leaves a mere fraction of resources available for essential innovation.

Dan argues that a significant communication gap exists: CIOs often struggle to translate technical challenges into the financial language understood by boards.

Furthermore, while many organisations view AI as a tool for immediate cost-cutting, Protiviti suggests this is a misconception, noting that AI requires robust data infrastructure to be effective.

To overcome these hurdles, Protiviti advises firms to simplify their architectures and prioritise operational resilience.

By treating transformation as a continuous process of innovation rather than a one-off project, financial institutions can turn technical burdens into a long-term competitive advantage.
