Mastercard Unveils Next-Gen B2B Payment Solutions

Mastercard has launched new technology solutions aimed at transforming B2B payments through automated supplier reconciliation and enhanced virtual card capabilities, addressing key challenges in digital commerce.
The global rollout of Mastercard Receivables Manager introduces an automated solution designed to make virtual cards more efficient and cost-effective for businesses, while the new Commercial Direct Payments platform delivers straight-through processing for both payments and reconciliation.
Digital Payment Evolution Meets Market Demands
Research from Mastercard reveals compelling market dynamics, with 93% of B2B suppliers emphasizing the critical nature of payment digitisation. However, two-thirds acknowledge falling short of buyer expectations in this area.
"Businesses today expect simple, secure, and seamless ways to pay and get paid β with many turning to virtual cards to meet those expectations," says Marc Pettican, Global Head of Corporate Solutions at Mastercard.
"To support our clients wherever they are on their modernisation journey, we're thrilled to bring to market another simple path to receivables automation and to fuel the consumerisation of B2B payments around the world in the process."
Technology Innovations in Virtual Card Processing
The enhanced Mastercard Receivables Manager now features multi-language support and secure card-on-file capabilities, enabling global digital commerce expansion. Payment providers including Elavon and Run Payments have implemented the solution to address manual processing challenges faced by 42% of suppliers.
In the Middle East, EazyPay's adoption marks a technological advancement for Bahrain's payment ecosystem. Nayef Tawfiq Al Alawi, Founder and CEO of EazyPay, states: "Collaborating together with Mastercard, we are aligned on bringing consumer-led digital payment experiences to the B2B world."
"This solution will empower more suppliers to accept virtual cards β modernising their accounts receivable workflows and unlocking faster, more reliable cash flow in the process."
Advanced Payment Architecture
The Commercial Direct Payments platform represents a technological leap in B2B transactions. This card network-agnostic solution automates the entire payment process, from initiation to reconciliation, while supporting multiple payment methods.
Key technological features include:
Intelligent reconciliation systems: Advanced integration capabilities connect rich remittance data directly with supplier ERP systems, eliminating manual intervention.
Unified connectivity infrastructure: A single connection point to Mastercard provides financial institutions with comprehensive processing capabilities, reducing technical complexity.
Flexible payment processing: The platform supports various payment methods, including virtual cards, with automated routing and reconciliation.
Dan Hughes, President of Sakon and head of AP Copilot, comments on being the first US adopter: "AP Copilot is proud to be at the forefront of transforming B2B payment experiences. Collaborating with Mastercard to deliver Commercial Direct Payments through our innovative smart payment assistant is a significant step in accelerating and scaling virtual card enabled straight-through processing technology in the US."
Pari Sawant, Chief Product Officer at Elavon, adds: "This partnership demonstrates our commitment to empowering suppliers with innovative B2B solutions in the digital age. Our customers are reaping the benefits of automated virtual card acceptance, sustaining strong engagement across our supplier community."
Rob Nathan, CEO and Co-Founder of Run Payments, concludes: "Mastercard Receivables Manager automates accepting virtual cards for our clients, saving them time, reducing manual tasks, and unlocking faster, more predictable cash flow. It's another step forward in helping businesses remove friction and focus on what they do best."
