Wise announced as a key provider of remittance services for Google Pay, enabling more accessible global payments for users

Customers using Google Wallet will soon be able to compare currencies and send money internationally through services provided by Wise. The feature will be tested by US Google users.

Individuals using Google for international payments for high-demand routes such as US Dollars to Indian Rupees, Philippine and Mexican Pesos and Brazillian Reals are set to benefit from the collaboration with Wise Platform.

Global payment service provider Stripe will be processing the transactions for these currencies during the initial phase of the Wise/Google collaboration.

The Wise Platform enables partners to integrate Wise's infrastructure into their own systems, allowing them to embed the most efficient methods for sending, receiving and managing money.

Over the past decade, Wise has developed a global payments infrastructure that has transformed how money moves worldwide.

Commercial Director for Wise Platform, Lauren Langbridge, says of its latest partnership: “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Google in helping to bring this new remittance experience to life. Sending money abroad is a routine necessity for millions of people and businesses, but it’s not always easy for customers to find the right provider.

“By joining forces with Google, Wise will enable fast, reliable international payments for more users across the US, and empower everyday people to make the best choice based on their needs.”

Improvements for online shoppers

The announcement comes as part of Google’s initiative to improve the accessibility of web payments, enabling smoother and easier transactions. Users looking for currency exchange rates on the Google Wallet will soon be able to view them, thanks to Google partnering with Wise, Ria Money Transfer and Xe.

Rates, fees and transaction speeds for each provider will also appear for users using the search feature, for a more efficacious experience.

Google has also revealed that US shoppers using Google Chrome will be able to benefit from more buy-now-pay-later services using autofill, improving the shopping experience with its functionality.

Pairing with Klarna and Afterpay for more buy-now-pay-later options, Google expects the additional services to increase accessibility for global payments.

Shoppers can checkout by using biometrics or phone PINs to automatically enter payment details, billing and shipping addresses, making the most of the autofill function.

The tech giant also announced more reward choices for US card users.

Google Pay will display credit card benefits at checkout for users, reducing time spent researching for the best advantage for the consumer.

Cardholders with CapitalOne or Amex who checkout using Chrome desktop are already able to see this feature.

Google has confirmed it will be expanding this feature to include other cards in future.

Sending money abroad is a routine necessity for millions of people and businesses, but it’s not always easy for customers to find the right provider.

Last year, Wise achieved its aim of expanding global reaching, accomplishing a 25% increase in customer acquisition growth.

This marked a 2.8-times expansion in its customer base over four years as the fintech deepens its integration with domestic payment systems.

Now partnered with Google Pay, Wise is well-positioned to reach further demographics and expand customer reach even further.
