Xero has announced that its financial superagent Just Ask Xero (JAX) is set to upgrade to an agentic platform with benefits from a partnership with OpenAI

Xero’s financial superagent is set to receive an upgrade, becoming an agentic platform and shifting away from a purely conversational experience.

JAX is built on Xero’s agentic AI platform, and is designed to learn, automate and provide insights for businesses.

Diya Jolly, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Xero, says: “This evolution of Xero’s platform is a foundation for the next era of small business accounting.

“JAX doesn’t just support today’s workflows; it continuously learns, adapts and acts to meet the evolving needs of business owners.

“By handling repetitive tasks and empowering our customers to focus on growth, relationships, and high value decisions, we’re seeing what’s possible for the future of work in the accounting industry, and we’re excited to keep expanding our AI offering.”

AI to boost efficiency

The agentic technology uses a single intelligent interface to gain insights into business workflows, bringing a unified experience to users.

JAX is also reported to support compliance demands, as it is able to automate routine tasks such as payroll, bank reconciliations and data entry.

JAX utilises Xero’s decades of accounting experience as the foundation for its reliable insights. With Assure Control, the technology has increased accuracy in comparison to other AI tools which solely rely on large language models.

Deep research to maintain efficiency

Xero’s collaboration with OpenAI allows JAX to scan the web and perform deep research to further assist with useful insights to customers.

Giancarlo 'GC' Lionetti, Chief Commercial Officer at OpenAI comments: “With AI tools like JAX, small businesses can save time, work more efficiently, and grow,”

OpenAI will enable Xero customers to access deep web research such as tax laws, market trends and other pertinent financial information requested at a rapid pace.

JAX is also able to provide deep insights about customer’s businesses and connected apps.

In collaboration with OpenAI, customers are able to gain access to a unified view of data about their business, allowing for clarity regarding important decisions.

Supporting small business clients

Xero also announces its Partner Hub for accountants and bookkeepers, expected to launch fully in 2026.

The Hub offers practice tools and data, navigable from a single, customisable homepage. Insights powered by AI are also offered.

By enabling access via a single source, Xero aims to unify the client and staff experience with its fully integrated technology.

A beta version will be available to clients using the Xero Practice Manager in next few months.

Users of Xero will now be able to download ledger data directly, reducing manual entry time and furthering the company’s mission to support efficient practices for small businesses.

Syft has also been embedded into Xero to allow for more actionable insights such as a business health score. Powered by AI, the small business product also supports advisors alongside small businesses by incorporating external data such as website visits.

Businesses using Xero will soon be able to accept deposits or payments in stages for further flexibility and control through Xero’s Progress Payments.

Customers will see a new online statement feature that reduces payment delays by offering the option to pay multiple outstanding invoices in a single transaction.
