Alipay Hits 120 Million Weekly AI Agent Transactions

Alipay, the digital payment giant, has announced that its AI Pay solution exceeded 120 million transactions in a single week, marking it as the first payment service globally to reach such a milestone through AI agents.
Launched in 2025, the AI Pay system allows for secure, automated transactions initiated by AI. It has rapidly integrated into the daily lives of Chinese consumers via mini-programmes for major retailers like Luckin Coffee and hardware integrations with AI smart glasses.
Bridging the gap with the Trust Protocol
The surge in transaction volume is largely attributed to the launch of the Agentic Commerce Trust Protocol in January 2026. Developed alongside partners including Taobao Instant Commerce and Alibaba’s Qwen App, the protocol creates a standardised framework for AI-led financial interactions.
The Qwen App became the first platform to adopt the protocol, allowing users to place food and beverage orders simply by chatting with the AI. This eliminates the traditional friction of switching between apps, as the AI agent handles the selection, ordering and payment through the Alipay AI Pay interface.
Empowering the developer ecosystem
A critical driver for this growth has been the lowering of technical barriers for developers. In December 2025, Alipay collaborated with Rokid to integrate AI payments into the Lingzhu platform.
By utilising the Model Context Protocol (MCP), developers can now access sophisticated payment capabilities using natural language commands rather than traditional complex coding. This enables the rapid deployment of in-agent payment experiences across a new generation of smart devices.
The rise of contactless hardware
Alipay is also expanding Tap! wearables through its partnerships with Xioami, Rokid and RayNeo.
Through AI smart glasses, users can look at a blue Alipay Tap! ring to activate payment with a voice command, such as “help me pay”, to confirm and complete the transaction hands-free.
Tap!’s technology allows users to unlock their phones and tap against a merchant terminal or tag, bypassing the need to launch an app or scan a QR code. This streamlined approach has proven particularly popular with younger demographics, older adults and those with visual impairments.
Alipay’s evolution from a simple e-wallet to an all-in-one digital platform now connects over one billion consumers to 80 million merchants in China.
Rokid Glasses have been in the market for only eight months after its launch in June 2025. Over 250,000 units were ordered before the release.
Aijuan Zhang, Vice President of Ant Group and Rotating President of the Digital Payment Business Unit said at the time: “Rokid Glasses deliver a brand-new user experience. Alipay will fully support the growth of emerging industries and continue to create more value for users.”
Using Alipay’s digital payment technology, the glasses enable consumers to pay using a hands-free method. Transactions can be completed in-store in seconds after users link their AliPay account to the glasses and give a voice command.
The move points towards a future of intuitive commerce.
