FinTech Magazine recaps its exclusive interview with Russell Fisher, COO Admiral Pioneer at Admiral Group

On 22 and 23 October, FinTech LIVE London Global Summit made its inaugural appearance at 155 Bishopsgate for a two-day, hybrid conference that delved into the current state of the fintech industry.

Throughout the event, attendees could engage in a diverse agenda that featured a range of keynote presentations and panel discussions that explored the rise of AI, B2B payments, the importance of sustainability, embedded finance and the future of open banking.

At the end of day one of the event, the debut Global FinTech Awards took place. These awards showcased the best achievements in fintech, blockchain, AI and insurance and helped to spark inspiration for others wanting to take their first step in the fintech industry.

Here, we recap our exclusive FinTech LIVE London interview with Russell Fisher, COO Admiral Pioneer at Admiral Group.

🎤At FinTech LIVE London Global Summit, Russell featured on our ‘Financial Services Forum’ alongside Steve Round, President and Co-Founder of SaaScada, Dan Dica, CEO of Lynx Tech and Bentzi Aviv, Global Head of Fintech Solutions at Amdocs.

Talk us through some of the points covered in your panel discussion, the ‘Financial Services Forum’.

“It was a great panel. Time flew by, which is always a good sign.

“It was interesting. We had four quite different businesses represented and the themes that came out were surprisingly and encouragingly consistent.

“We talked a lot about the customer and how important it is to serve the customer rather than ourselves. We talked about new data and technology.

“We talked about operating models in businesses and how perhaps they need to be changed to better serve our customers and we talked a lot about collaboration in the ecosystem.

“It was a great chat - I had some lovely feedback from people.”

Looking to the future, what’s next for Admiral Group?

“It’s more of the same, hopefully quicker and better.

“We remain deeply committed to serving customers, so understanding customers within their lives and how we can best serve them.

“Our businesses are established - Veygo serving young drivers, Admiral Business serving SME and our new commercial motor team looking at fleets and how we can help businesses with more vehicles - so much more of that next year.”

Talk us through the process you went through when participating on the Global FinTech Awards 2024 judging panel.

“It’s a great process - I really enjoy it and it is great to take time out of the day to come together with other judges.

“It was a great selection of judges I spent the day with but, more importantly, (I enjoyed) reading the applications. There is some really innovative stuff going on.

“I think awards, when done well, are great because people need encouragement. It is hard when you’re working away on something new, so to get the recognition for what you’re doing is tremendous.

“I always find it a really interesting and useful experience to look at them (the award applications).”
