Over 40,000 customers shared their feedback on financial services in the UK. Revolut, Starling and Monzo are the challenger banks among the 2020 winners.

The British Bank Awards 2020, run by Smart Money People, is now in its sixth year, and has been affectionately described as "The Oscars of the Banking World" as challengers, incumbents and everything in between comes together for the event. The 2020 event has seen a notable increase in customers reviewing the financial institutions, increasing from 27,000 to 40,000.

Starling Bank swept up three awards at the event: 'Best Current Account Provider', 'Best Business Banking Provider' and ‘Best British Bank.’ Anne Boden, founder and CEO of Starling Bank said: “Our continued focus on the customer is what drives us and we’re proud to continue to be the Best British Bank, providing current and business accounts and great offerings such as our marketplace, competitive foreign currency rates and forward-thinking mobile banking. A big thank you to all who voted for us.”

Another customer centric bank worth mentioning is sustainable banking leader Triodos Bank, which was launched in 2017. It won ‘Best British Bank” runner up and was also awarded the ‘Customer Service Champion’ award. Bevis Watts, CEO of Triodos Bank said: “In these times of increased awareness around climate change and social inequality, our commitment to use money to positively influence these issues has never felt more relevant.”

“We simply couldn’t have the impact that we do without our customers, so to win this award voted for by them is a significant honour. We’re celebrating 25 years of operating in the UK this year, and hope to inspire more people to demand that banks use their money to be a force for good by making sure that is invested sustainably and with social purpose.”

Fintech Monzo continues to earn recognition for its user-friendly interface and efficient mobile payment capabilities as it won “Best Banking App’ for the second year in a row. Though Revolut continues to dominate the UK as the largest digital bank, it only took home one prize: ‘Innovation of the Year.’

Traditional banking just about continues to hold its value against fintech startups as NatWest bagged 'Best Mortgage Provider'.
