Temenos Embeds Azure OpenAI Assistant into Core Banking
Temenos deploys Azure OpenAI-powered assistant to reduce time-to-market for banks developing financial products

Temenos has unveiled a new artificial intelligence (AI) assistant designed to help financial institutions create and deploy banking products faster in response to market pressures from digital challengers.

The fintech announced Temenos Product Manager Copilot at its annual community forum in Madrid, describing the assistant as a tool that integrates into its core banking platform and uses Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Service to provide conversational access to banking functionality.

The AI solution is embedded within Temenos Retail core banking solution, enabling product managers, IT staff and customer service representatives to explore the platform's capabilities and data insights through natural language interaction rather than complex technical interfaces.

AI adoption accelerating in banking sector

The launch comes amid growing adoption of generative AI in banking. According to research cited by Temenos, three-quarters of banks are exploring generative AI deployment, with 36% having already implemented it or are in the process of doing so.

Additionally, 73% of banks believe that agentic AI – systems that can autonomously perform tasks on behalf of users – will transform the industry.

Temenos Product Manager Copilot will be available as part of the company's retail accounts advanced and enterprise product offerings, with general availability scheduled for Q4 2025. The technology works with pre-configured user agents or can be accessed through Microsoft Teams.

Barb Morgan, Chief Product and Technology Officer, Temenos

Barb Morgan, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Temenos, says: “Temenos Product Manager Copilot unlocks the full innovation potential of Temenos core banking using Generative AI to help banks deliver better products faster to their customers.

“In an era where fintechs and neobanks can launch new offerings within weeks, it is critical for banks to accelerate innovation or risk losing relevance in an increasingly competitive landscape.”

Competitive pressures driving innovation needs

The technology addresses a growing challenge for traditional banks, which often struggle to match the speed at which digital challengers can bring new products to market.

By providing easier access to core banking functionality through conversational AI, Temenos aims to reduce the technical barriers to product innovation.

The copilot can also generate business insights from core banking data without requiring staff to write complex database queries, potentially enabling more data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

Christine Huberty, Deputy CIO, Banque Internationale à Luxembourg

Christine Huberty, Deputy CIO at Banque Internationale à Luxembourg, says: “We're excited about the new capabilities of Temenos Product Manager Copilot.

“The conversational interface will make it easier to access core banking functionality and data, helping bank staff work more efficiently and launch products faster to market. We value our ongoing collaboration with Temenos and the opportunity to contribute to this innovation.”

The AI solution integrates with Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Service, which provides the underlying language capabilities while offering enterprise-grade security and data protection features.

The platform is designed to allow integration with both new AI agents based on bank-specific data sources and existing AI agents already deployed within the organisation.

Temenos serves more than 950 banks worldwide with its core banking solutions, ranging from multinational institutions to regional banks.

The company's systems provide pre-configured banking products and functionality that can be customised to meet specific market requirements.

Clare Barclay, Corporate Vice President for Enterprise, Industry and Software Development Partners at Microsoft, says: “Azure OpenAI integration enables trusted, enterprise-grade AI experiences across industries.

“Through our collaboration with Temenos, banks can now harness the power of generative AI to accelerate product innovation, enhance customer engagement, and operate with greater agility and intelligence.”
