Job From: Head of Business Development, Citi
Job To: CEO of HSBC Innovation Banking UK
HSBC UK Bank has named Emily Turner as the new CEO of its Innovation Banking UK division, marking a significant leadership appointment in the UK's banking and technology sector.
Turner, who will take the helm in February 2025 subject to regulatory approval, brings a wealth of experience from her tenure at Citi, where she played pivotal roles in driving innovation and investment strategies.
Turner's appointment comes at a crucial time for HSBC Innovation Banking, which has established itself as a major player in the UK's innovation ecosystem. The division currently serves nearly 3,700 innovation businesses and funds across the UK and Europe, supported by a workforce of over 700 employees in the UK alone.
Her extensive background includes founding and scaling Citi Ventures UK and leading Citi's Global Institutional Strategic Investing group. Turner also has hands-on experience in developing early-stage companies through Citi's internal incubator, complemented by her most recent role as MD and Head of Business Development in Citi's Client Organisation.
The appointment aligns with HSBC's broader growth strategy, particularly in the technology sector, where the bank already serves 80 percent of FTSE100 and FTSE250 tech companies. Turner will take over from Simon Bumfrey, who has been serving as Interim CEO and will return to his role as Head of Technology and Life Sciences.
In accepting the position, Turner expressed enthusiasm about building on HSBC Innovation Banking's success, highlighting the division's strong track record in supporting founders, companies, and investors throughout their growth journey.
