Nikolay Storonsky, Revolut: Simplifying Financial Services

Born in Dolgoprudny, Russia, Nikolay Storonsky exhibited a strong aptitude for physics and economics from a young age. H
He earned a master's degree in General and Applied Physics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, followed by a master's in Applied Economics and Finance from the New Economic School in Moscow.
In 2004, Nikolay relocated to the United Kingdom, where he later acquired British citizenship.

Nikolay’s career journey
Nikolay began his career as an equity derivatives trader, working at Lehman Brothers from 2006 to 2008 and subsequently at Credit Suisse until 2013.
His experience in the financial sector exposed him to the complexities and inefficiencies of traditional banking, particularly concerning international transactions.
In 2015, motivated by a desire to simplify financial services and reduce costs for consumers, Nikolay co-founded Revolut with Vlad Yatsenko.
Initially offering a multi-currency card with favourable exchange rates, Revolut has since expanded into a comprehensive financial platform.
As of November 2024, the company serves over 50 million customers globally, employs more than 10,000 people and is valued at US$45bn.
In July 2024, after a three-year application process, Revolut secured a UK banking license, enabling it to offer a broader range of financial products and services.
This milestone positions Revolut to compete more directly with traditional banks in areas such as mortgages and savings accounts.
Vision for the future
Nikolay is recognised for his data-driven approach and commitment to innovation. Under his leadership, Revolut has continually expanded its product offerings, aiming to become a global financial "super app."
Despite facing regulatory challenges and scrutiny over corporate culture, Nikolay remains focused on scaling the company and enhancing its services.
Nikolay’s journey from a physics student in Russia to the CEO of one of Europe's most valuable fintech companies exemplifies his dedication to transforming the financial industry.
Through Revolut, he continues to challenge traditional banking models, offering innovative solutions to consumers worldwide.
