Global Payments Unveils Unified POS System Across Markets

Global Payments has announced the release of a new point-of-sale (POS) system named Genius, consolidating the company's existing POS products into a comprehensive system.
The new platform functions as a centralised command centre for business operations, designed to streamline the company's product portfolio. It marks an operational shift as Global Payments works to unify its various payment technologies.
“Going to market with a single, enhanced POS platform enables customers to enjoy the full range of features and commerce enablement solutions that we offer,” says Cameron Bready, Global Payments' CEO.
“With these changes, we are delivering a seamless experience for our customers while simplifying our business and establishing a stronger and more recognisable brand in the market.”
The Genius platform has been engineered to facilitate international expansion and specialisation in vertical markets. This design allows Global Payments to deploy in multiple countries whilst adapting to regulatory and market requirements in each region.
The platform opens opportunities in niche retail segments including age-regulated businesses, higher education institutions and consumer service organisations.
“Genius reinforces Global Payments' position as a leading technology partner for businesses seeking versatile software and payment solutions in today's rapidly-evolving marketplace,” says Bob Cortopassi, Global Payments' President and Chief Operating Officer.
“This new POS platform accelerates the value we provide our customers by establishing a single, scalable and feature-rich continuum of POS technology that we will continue to enhance in the months and years ahead.”
Restaurant and retail versions lead platform rollout
Global Payments has prioritised food service and retail businesses for the initial Genius release. The company will showcase Genius for Restaurants at the National Restaurant Association exhibition on 17 May.
The restaurant version includes features for table management in full-service restaurants and checkout functionality for counter service environments.
It incorporates waitlist management, reservation systems, real-time reporting capabilities, tableside payment processing, marketing tools and customer loyalty programmes.
The platform runs on hardware that Global Payments states is engineered for improved performance in restaurant environments.
Genius for Restaurants will be available to businesses in the United States and Canada upon launch.
The retail version of the platform, which Global Payments plans to introduce in June, incorporates order management, inventory tracking, checkout processing, customer loyalty functions, marketing tools, invoicing and business reporting.
The initial release of Genius for Retail will target the US market, with expansion to Canada, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic scheduled to follow.
Enterprise solution planned for late 2025
Global Payments has announced plans to release Genius for Enterprise later in 2025. This version targets organisations with complex requirements such as quick-service restaurant chains, sports stadiums and entertainment venues.
The enterprise solution will address environments with large physical footprints and intricate kitchen workflow requirements. Global Payments intends to deploy this version across multiple countries, though specific markets have not been identified.
All versions of the Genius platform will be marketed under the Global Payments brand name rather than as separate product lines.
"With these changes, we are delivering a seamless experience for our customers while simplifying our business and establishing a stronger and more recognisable brand in the market," says Cameron.
