Walk us through some of the key talking points from FinTech LIVE?

Jakob Pethick, YouLend

“It was a very informal conversation. We talked a lot about how embedded financing is serving small businesses and helping them access capital to grow their businesses faster.

“It was a very well-educated audience, so we ended up discussing different partnerships, models and some of the underlying trends about why embedded financing is becoming such a big deal.”

Henrique Di Lorenzo, Mollie

“There was a lot of focus and perspective on small and medium merchant customers and why these products are relevant to them. We discussed how we can help and unlock growth for those customers. We realised that SMEs have a lot of potential.

“They're entrepreneurs who really want to grow their business. However, due to access to liquidity or cashflow, they can't achieve their full potential. We have made a point and can prove with data that by providing such products, we can unlock growth, help our customers develop more customers, increase their business and therefore raise their sales, which is our joint goal.”

What role is Mollie currently filling in the fintech space?

Henrique Di Lorenzo, Mollie

“Mollie started as a payment service provider, helping customers to access payments wherever they're selling, but we realised that our customers need to manage their finances through many providers in the market.

“You need someone to accept payments, you need an invoicing player, you work with payroll and accounts receivable, a bank, accounts payable, a bookkeeping platform—so many providers out there, meaning a lot of costs and time consumed.

“You need to onboard with many players, do KYC over and over again. It's like fatigue with all the subscription models. They need to work with so many players when they really want to focus on running and growing their business instead of managing suppliers or partners.

“During the panel, we discussed this idea: should we or the ecosystem focus more on providing best-in-class solutions, go deep into one topic, or should we go broad and be the all-in-one platform?

“We concluded that with providers of embedded finance, you can actually do both—be the best in class and at the same time go broad, do all-in-one. And that's where Mollie plans to play a leading role.

How do Mollie and YouLend work together?

Jakob Pethick, YouLend

“We're an embedded finance provider, and we work with companies like Mollie to offer financing to small business customers. One of the big reasons we do this is that small businesses, when they receive financing, are able to grow faster and create jobs.

“It's one of the things we look very closely at in our partnership—the extent to which we help small businesses grow and create jobs.”
