The flagship event of the global FinTech LIVE series, FinTech LIVE London 2024 was dedicated to inspiring and empowering C/V/D level fintech executives in enterprise organisations.
Our hybrid FinTech LIVE London 2024 event provided a dynamic and interactive online platform, allowing attendees to connect, learn, and exchange insights on the latest trends, challenges, and best practices in fintech and financial services.
Cultivating a vibrant atmosphere, FinTech LIVE London enabled fintech leaders from the UK and Europe to forge connections and delve deeper into their organisations' most pressing fintech issues.
Here, we recap our exclusive FinTech LIVE London interview with Gareth Wilson, Executive Vice President at Capgemini from FinTech LIVE London.
What are some of the key points you discussed on stage today?
“It was great to start the day with a forward-looking view in terms of the opportunity to continue the transformation of financial services and specifically payments. We looked at the opportunity of instant and real-time payments.
“We looked at the opportunity in terms of open finance, which is partly driven by regulation, but primarily by customer demand and appetite.
“It was a good conversation with some interesting questions. Always good to get some questions both from the floor and the virtual audience. I very much enjoyed it.”
What are Capgemini’s aims for 2025?
“So I think from a Capgemini point of view, we do see the continuation in terms of the transformation of the whole payments ecosystem. I think fintechs play a key part in this. The banks themselves play a key part.
“The regulators play a key part, and I think we as a Capgemini team are very keen to be a catalyst in terms of bringing all the interested parties together to deliver material transformation, not only to the industry but also to the fintechs, the banks and their customers. I think we all want to create value together.”
How do you navigate change at Capgemini?
“We're fortunate, we're a global organisation. I tend to work very closely with my colleagues, not only here in the UK, but in Asia and North America.
“And actually part of that is we try and share the experience because there are differences, but there are opportunities to learn from what's happening in some particular geographies.”
“If you look at India, for example, and the implementation of UPI or if you look at Brazil and the implementation of PIX, there is a lot that we can learn about the adoption of instant payments here in the UK and the US, with FedNow slightly behind in terms of timescale, but the opportunity there is also material.
“So from a Capgemini point of view, as I say, we're very keen to play a material role in the ecosystem and to try and create value.”
