Bold Says its new Platform Improves the Speed of the Checkout Experience by up to Three Times
Headless Checkout Company Bold Commerce has Launched a First-of-its-Kind Biometric Checkout, Powered by Wink’s Payments and Identity Platform

The headless checkout company for omnichannel retailers and DTC brands, Bold Commerce, has launched a first-of-its-kind biometric checkout, powered by Wink’s biometric payments and identity platform.

Bold says its new platform improves the speed of the checkout experience by up to three times while reducing the scope for fraud in the payments process.

The checkout mitigates the need for customers to fill out time-consuming details like online login credentials, delivery details and payments preferences.

Now, customers can complete payment simply by using their face and voice to pre-fill all necessary information to complete a purchase, either online or in-store.

By increasing the speed at which consumers pay, Bold hopes to eliminate checkout abandonment and the fraud risk associated with passwords.

Why is Bold’s biometric checkout a big deal?

Of course, the concept of biometric payments is not a new one. But while large corporates like Apple and Amazon have integrated biometrics into the shopping experience, the focus of their biometric solutions has been on the payments portion of the checkout experience alone, and only on certain devices like smartphones.

Indeed, biometrics are already used by over half of shoppers in some way or form, just not throughout the whole process. Consumers still rely on passwords for shopper accounts, which comes with friction and vulnerabilities.

However, Bold’s biometric payments solution enables its clients to offer shoppers biometrics at every stage of the checkout process and through any channel, going from cart to checkout without the need for passwords and PINs.

Retailers can integrate the technology into any mobile, desktop or in-store shopping experience, offering a vastly expedited checkout experience.

The Wink connection

Bold’s new biometric checkout is powered by software company Wink’s biometric payments and identity platform. As well as embedding biometrics at every stage of the checkout experience, Wink has integrated an extra layer of security for retailers and shoppers to prevent purchases from fraudulent bots and unauthorised accounts.

Wink has also ensured Bold’s biometric checkout facilitates payments in all forms, from credit cards to digital wallets, and pay by bank to Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) options.

Wink CEO Deepak Jain says: “There is a massive untapped potential for retailers to tap the benefits of biometrics for delivering a frictionless omnichannel and secure checkout experience for shoppers.

"Our collaboration with Bold Commerce merges unparalleled biometric capabilities with top-tier checkout technology, unlocking an unprecedented shopping experience previously unexplored in the industry.

“The current landscape demands innovative solutions that prioritise security, speed and a seamless shopping journey, making this integration an imperative step towards meeting evolving consumer expectations and ensuring a future-ready shopping ecosystem.”

Peter Karpas, CEO of Bold Commerce, agrees: “Retailers are increasingly making their way into the biometrics space, and making it easy for them to integrate biometrics into the checkout experience so shoppers can quickly make a purchase using only their face.

“We’re taking the tailored checkout experience that Bold has long powered a step further with Bold Checkout with Wink to drive conversion, customer loyalty and average order value.”
