Leading global payments and financial platform for modern businesses, Airwallex, has partnered with GoCardless to bolster its direct debit offering.

With its GoCardless partnership secured, Airwallex can now offer direct debit options to its customers across several key markets.

Airwallex: Leveraging GoCardless Embed

By leveraging GoCardless Embed – a white-label integration – Airwallex now connects to GoCardless’ global bank payment network, helping Airwallex customers expand into new verticals and use cases where direct debit is preferred.

Airwallex has already launched its new integration in the UK, with the service due to roll out across Europe in the near future.

The announcement is the latest from Airwallex as part of its commitment to support businesses of all sizes in achieving their global growth targets.

Justin Leung, Financial Partnerships Manager at Airwallex, says: “Businesses of all sizes are looking at how they can adapt to evolving customer needs – and payments are no exception.

“With direct debit continuing to be a trusted and popular way to pay, especially with the rise of the subscription economy, we felt it was the perfect time to strengthen our offering so that our customers can better serve theirs.

“By working with GoCardless we were able to quickly provide this option through one simple integration.”

Deepak Colluru, Director of Product Management for GoCardless Embed, adds: “We’re excited to work with Airwallex to bring the best of direct debit to its customers. With fewer intermediaries, they are cheaper than cards and in many cases more reliable too, without expiry dates or lost payment details.

“It’s a win-win for us to partner with Airwallex. We’re proud to add to their bank payment offering through Embed, giving them access to a global network in a matter of weeks, while at the same time reaching thousands of new merchants through their platform.”

PSP innovation vital

Airwallex’s partnership with GoCardless comes on the back of research GoCardless research which suggests that payment service providers (PSPs) should continue to innovate to remain competitive and boost customer retention rates.

In today’s digital world, increased payment choice stood out as the leading priority among merchants who asked what they would like from their PSP. 31% of businesses surveyed expressed a willingness to pay more for a wider range of payment methods, while 35% want their PSP to offer direct debit and 27% want their PSP to offer Open Banking and other bank payment options.

Airwallex’s partnership with GoCardless follows news earlier in 2024 that it had become the official partner of the McLaren Racing Formula 1 team. Per the deal, Airwallex supports McLaren’s global financial operations including treasury management, cross-border payouts and its settlement product suite.

GoCardless has also been extending its partnerships across the financial services spectrum, recently expanding its deal with Intuit QuickBooks by launching apps in the US and Australia.
